What GDL does
Grounded Discovery Labs combines frontier AI models with grounded research, adversarial evaluation, prior-art analysis, quantitative checks, and evidence-driven testing to search for novel, buildable, economically meaningful inventions. The outputs are structured technical documents: ranked concepts, decisive tests with explicit kill criteria, risks, and build paths — hypotheses until evidence advances them.
Where GDL comes from
Grounded Discovery Labs is developed within Westar LLC in Dorchester, Wisconsin. Westar has spent decades designing and building real machinery, automation, robotics, fabricated systems, and production equipment. GDL applies that build-oriented perspective to AI-enabled invention discovery: concepts are judged the way a build shop judges them — can it be made, will it survive, what does it cost, and what single test settles the question.
Where GDL works
GDL works across engineering, manufacturing, energy, materials, computation, chemistry, and biology-inspired or biology-adjacent technology research where these disciplines intersect with beneficial scientific and engineering discovery.
Current status
GDL 1.0 — core discovery architecture established. Current work focuses on high-value invention discovery, evidence development, frontier-model evaluation, and commercial application.
